YouTube bug causes channels to lose millions of subscribers

Many well known YouTubers like PewDiePie and Boogie2988 have reported losing thousands of subscribers in less than one hour due to a serious bug. YouTuber PewDiePie headed to YouTube on Wednesday night and started a live stream as he lost thousands of subscribers in just a few minutes. The original stream seems to have been deleted from his channel now. Boogie2988 also created a video reporting the loses on his channel and other channels.

The bug is reportedly reproduced when someone unsubscribes from a channel. Instead of the channel losing only one subscriber in the subscriber counter, it loses two. It is also unknown when the bug was introduced, but is stimated that the bug may have caused hundreds of thousands YouTube channels to lose millions of subscribers. Some YouTubers like BlackScreenTV encouraged their subscribers to unsubscribe for fun, making the channel lose more than a million subscribers.

BlackScreenTV is currently hosting a live stream of a live subscriber count for other famous channels. You can find the live stream here.

At the moment it is unclear if the bug only affects the subscriber counter on each channel or if it causes other subscribers to be unsubscribed too.
